IAHR, the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research, particularly promotes the advancement and exchange of knowledge through working groups, specialty symposia, congresses, and publications on water resources, river and coastal hydraulics, risk analysis, energy, environment, disaster prevention, industrial processes
In response to the promotion of the student activities of IAHR (International Association of Hydro-Environmental Engineering and Research), the very first student chapter was founded at the University Stuttgart in the year 2000. At that time it was named IAHR-SSC (Stuttgart Student Chapter). Since then, it has always been one of the most active chapters in the world. In 2005, under the presidency of Rüdiger Siebel, the IAHR-SSC has been registered at the Stuttgart State Court as a public organization, and was officially named as IAHR-SSC. The IAHR BW (officially still named as IAHR-SSC) has its roots within two international, water related, study programs at the Universität Stuttgart: the ENWAT (International Doctoral Program Environment Water) and the WAREM (Internationally Orientated Master of Science Program Water Resources Engineering and Management) program. The IAHR BW is dedicated to promote students activities and to facilitate their communication with young water professionals worldwide and internationally renowned researchers.
